چکیده

This application note describes a robust analytical method for the determination of heavy metals and substances regulated by the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances/End of Life Vehicles (RoHS/ELV) directives. Based on the experience of Nihon Environmental Services Co., Ltd in Japan using an Agilent Technologies 7500c ORS (Octopole Reaction System) collision/reaction cell ICP-MS, this note summarizes: • An overview and validation of ICP-MS methodology for RoHS applications • Benefits of ICP-MS methodology to the analysis of trace elements in high matrix samples and limitations of EDXRF (Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence) for the measurement of lead in flame resistant plastics • Advantages of ICP-MS for RoHS applications.

Comparison of the Levels of Five Heavy Metals in Human Urine and Sweat after Strenuous Exercise by ICP-MS

Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was used to measure the levels of trace heavy metals in human urine and sweat, to compare the performance of ICP-MS using three sample processing methods, namely direct dilution, wet digestion, and microwave digestion. The results showed that the wet digestion ICP-MS method has the highest accuracy (relative standard deviation ≤10%) and is m...

Determination of heavy metals and rare earth elements in environmental samples by ICP-MS after solid phase preconcentration with chelating resin fibers and anion exchanger filters.

A solid phase collection/concentration method using anion exchanger filters and a small syringe packed with chelating resin fibers is adopted as a preconcentration tool for trace elements and a separation tool for matrices in aqueous samples prior to the measurement by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The effects of fiber volume, sample volume, eluent volume, and sample fl...

Accurate Quantification of Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury and Lead in Plastics for RoHS Compliance using the Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS

This application note describes the quantification of cadmium, chromium, lead and mercury in plastic materials by external calibration using the Agilent 7500ce ICP-MS system equipped with an Octopole Reaction System (ORS). Isotope dilution analysis with ICP-MS was used as a confirmatory technique. Good agreement of the results obtained by the two calibration approaches was achieved. The sample ...

Analytical Methods for the Determination of Heavy Metals in the Textile Industry

Heavy metals in textile wastewater represent a major environmental problem, and are a potential danger to human health when present on textiles. Furthermore, the presence of some metals influences the production of textiles. Heavy metals are often used as oxidizing agents, as metal complex dyes, dye stripping agents, fastness improvers, and finishers. Thus, they act as hazardous sources through...

Development of PVC and PP resin pellet certified reference materials for heavy metal analysis with respect to the RoHS directive.

The PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and the PP (polypropylene) resin pellet certified reference materials (CRMs, NMIJ CRM 8123-a and 8133-a) with respect to the RoHS (restriction of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronics equipment) directive were developed in the present study. Both the sample pretreatment and the measurement procedures for the determination of Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb...
